Feliz Dia de Accion de Gracias!… Merry Thanksgiving!
It doesnt quite flow as well in Spanish does it? Maybe because it doesnt exist in Spain. Its wierd waking up alone on a day like this one. Normally I would be smashed together sleeping on the floor inbetween cousins and distant relatives either at my grandmas house or at home in Southern California awaiting a day full of glutony and loud conversations. What a day. What a normal day in Spain.
Well, not so normal I suppose. In an effort to appease the general homesickness on a traditional family day such as this, our exchange program has organized a Thanksgiving banquet tonight at Hotel Espana on St Pau off the Rambla. It should be loads of fun as all the americans will be dressed up and together again for the first time since the Col.legio St Jordi. Im really looking forward to it, but dont really know what to expect for the food. The monstrous turkys we find so easily in the local supermarket in the states just dont exist here and Im a bit scared to know what the spaniards will put in the stuffing. I wouldnt be surprised if it was a ham dinner instead of turkey. We’ll just have to wait and see. Im sure it will be good. I havent been let down by spanish food yet.
Anyway, yesterday I had a midterm for my Literatura Hispano-Americano class. It was basically three small essays covering the 5 or 6 excerpts of text we read from the pre-columbino era of south america. You can imagine what loads of fun that was to study for. But I came through alright and I think the essays were written in legible enough Spanish. It was my first real anything that I have done for school here so far, and it will be nice to get back a grade in at least one of my classes.
Nothing really happened more this week. I started looking up prices to travel over the christmas holiday. I think Im going to go to London for New Years. Does anyone want to come with me? Its only 56 something euros from Barcelona. Or does anyone know any kind people in London who I could stay with? It would save me close to 40 pounds per day (~80 dollars). Stupid dollar being worth so little. Debo pegarlo.
